In 2021–2022, we worked alongside Code4Romania on a project supported by the Bucharest Community Foundation, through the Bucharest is Prepared program, to develop the e-cutremur.ro platform. This is a content integrator managed by Code4Romania, focused on seismic risk management across its four dimensions: (1) risk awareness and reduction, (2) emergency preparedness, (3) emergency response, and (4) post-disaster recovery. It is a civic platform ready for launch that integrates and coordinates information, including for the event of an earthquake, supporting response and recovery interventions.
Additionally, we edited and launched two informational brochures for owners and tenants in Bucharest, containing information relevant to other parts of the country exposed to seismic risk. These brochures were launched simultaneously with the website www.acasainsiguranta.ro, also developed with Code4Romania as part of the Commit Global program. This site serves as a resource page for property owners, homeowners’ associations, and condominium managers across the country, aiming to raise awareness about seismic risk and earthquake-vulnerable housing.
MKBT is part of the monitoring strategy for implementing the National Strategy for Reducing Seismic Risk, a strategy adopted by the government in 2022, to which MKBT members contributed as independent experts in the technical assistance project carried out by the World Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration (MDRAP).
Our narrative podcast “Conversations On Housing” deals with the topic in greater detail (only available in Romanian): Living under Seismic Risk (I) // Living under Seismic Risk (II)
