ReInd-BBG: Partner Meeting in Vratsa, Bulgaria

In progress

Between 8 and 9 October, Marina and Edi represented our association at the fourth partner meeting of the “ReInd-BBG: ReIndustrialisation following the Brownfield is Better than Greenfield Principle” project, held in Vratsa, Bulgaria, and organized by the Vratsa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Municipality of Vratsa.

In the first day, the partners discussed each other’s progress in regenerating pilot sites and shared the best practices that helped them achieve their objectives. A major focus was on developing public-private partnerships and creating materials designed to attract investors to the urban regeneration projects of each of the parteners.

Our team presented a series of materials created for the Municipality of Reșița: a city presentation brochure, a detailed map of the site undergoing regeneration, and a dedicated website aimed at improving the relationship between the local administration, represented by the Reșița Local Development Agency, and private investors. The materials can be accessed here.

In the second day, partners visited the Vratsa pilot site, a former university campus that the municipality plans to transform into a multifunctional hub: a high-tech educational center, a civic and business incubator, as well as a mixed residential-commercial space. The city tour also included a visit to the Cheh-Plast company, where director Dimitar Ivanov presented the transformation of production facilities in accordance with the “Brownfield is Better than Greenfield” principle.

The second day focused on individual consultations, a presentation on mapping abandoned industrial areas in the Danube region, and developing a transnational reindustrialization strategy. Together with partners from BOKU University in Vienna and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, we organized a workshop to consolidate proposals that will form the foundation of this strategy.
